Reference Architecture – short

Below you will find a short architecture. Highly compressed enough to have an idea of what a proper architecture should look like. The graphic form presented below comes from experience. It will not always refer to the “IEC 61082-1” standard.

IEC 61082-1 is the basic 100-page document you should read. It is paid so we cannot place it on the website. The price of this document is approximately $500.

But if you are a student or a beginner architect, the information contained only on this website should be sufficient for you to make the correct architecture without spending money.

1. Overview page

Purpose of this chapter:

This is a purely informative/optional chapter, as the information contained is also included in other later chapters. But it is intended to provide a quick overview.

The chapter should contain:

– illustrated in the “floor plan” of the vehicle, showing where the individual components of the system are located
– Components to be illustrated: lights, , sensors, emergency lighting (e.g. highlighted in color)
– It should include a top view to improve the overview.

2. Functional Overview

Purpose of this chapter:

Note: This chapter serves to clarify the respective system at a higher level -> The following information must be included:

Which system? Which components? Which interfaces to the electrics and software? Which voltage level (see example below)? Which installation space (“+XX” number if already defined with mechanical electrics)? Name of the components (in addition to the clear name, also electrical abbreviations for clear identification).

The chapter should contain:

– used to schematically illustrate the connections between the components
– Components to be illustrated: lights, ballasts, switches, sensors, emergency lighting (e.g. highlighted in color), control unit

Requirements from the standard IEC 61082-1:

“Diagram providing a comprehensive view of an object with a
low degree of detailing
Mandatory:
• Graphical symbols representing the objects
• Main interrelations or connections
• Designations and references to more detailed documents
Optional:
• Location information
• Parts of process flow diagrams
• Implementation dependant information, e.g. technical
data, measuring points
• Explanatory information, such as data on supply and
service limits ”

3. Functional description of the systems (e.g. cab lighting system)

Purpose of this chapter:

None

The chapter should contain:

– Flowchart or logic diagram for switching on the lights and emergency lights
– simplified circuit diagram (e.g. plus only) shows power supply

4. Component list

Purpose of this chapter:

none

The chapter should contain:

– contains these components

- Complete list of all parts/components belonging to the system
- All components included with the system (devices and other items in the system order)
- System components without electrical interfaces
- Additional components for integration
  - Contactors/relays
  - Switches
  - Special plugs
  - Special terminal points
  - Fuses
  - Special cables

– for all components it contains these information’s

- installation location
- product group
- article number
- supplier
- current
- power
- emergency light yes/no
